Day 14 June 2 Rabanal to Molinaseca

Hotel tonight is The Way Hostel

About a 18+ miles day.

Trek poles on stones awaken us this morning. We leave Rabanal around 8 am.

La Cruz de Ferro is a humble marker on such a noble path. It is a simple iron cross atop a weather pole. Travelers of the way bring mementos from home to deposit at this shrine as a symbolic gesture of unburdening themselves or symbolic of a wanted future change. Our tokens lie along the top at the pole.

Most colorful and longest day so far. Pastoral, heather lined path, scrubby high plains, many steep pitches. Up and down all day long. High snow covered peaks accompany us to the left side of the path all day.

Goat herd greeted us just as we dropped into a town as well as sheep bells. Lots of wild dogs and cats begging. Very sad.

Many familiar faces on The Way again today. John develops a blister on his left big toe from long downhills, left knee cap sore. Ann-Marie has very sore feet, toes - Lowa boots not stiff enough. Never felt this kind of pain in toes. Stopping periodically and taking off boots helps a lot. No other muscle soreness. Some knee pain. Thank you knee brace. Couldn't have done downhill without it. The cold tile floor of our hotel room is a welcome relief on toes. With all of these aches and pains, there is never a thought of stopping or jumping forward. All of our new pilgrim friends feel the same.

We gave our dirty laundry to hotel host and he got ours mixed with other guests. He let us go thru laundry to find ours. Thankfully it was already clean.

Our hotel for the night - The Way Hostal Molinaseca

Molinaseca is a beautiful village of about 800 with a river running thru it. Saw the couple from South Africa at dinner and our French friends Jacqueline and Sylvianne walking thru town.

In the evenings all along the way, sleep comes so easily and quickly!

Buen Camino
