Day 11- Leon to Villavante
Hotel name - Molino Galochas-Familia Mercedes
17 miles today (27.3 Km- 27,000 Steps closer to Santiago)
Again today the Familia Mercedes provided transportation to the city limits and the fields. The directions at the drop off point were not so clear. Then a Priest happened by and showed us the Way! We are taking an alternate route today through the countryside.
We next passed thru Hospital de Orbigo to find a charming village with one of the longest and best preserved medieval bridges in Spain.
The fields of cereal ( wheat) are now giving way to freshly plowed earth. The smell is such a nice change from the exhaust of Leon. The ditches are filled with water for irrigation and frogs are calling for mates. We try to see them, but as we get close, they dive under water and hide. Ann-Marie finally spied one. The new corn seed will be ready for planting soon.
Trekking along the dirt path it turns from brown to white. Sheep filled the road; maybe 200. Some are so swollen they can hardly walk. They must be pregnant! There is only one Ram and he looks tired! Two dogs mind the herd while the herder is on the phone. Wonder if it was an I Phone.
The dirt path gave way to a paved road with endless powerlines. For entertainment, we started to count them. It was endless!
Ann-Marie has been lucky so far with no feet issues. However her feet were swollen today. The knee braces she wears when carrying a heavy load blessed her with heat a rash. We might send a small bag ahead to our next hotel to lighten our load.
The hotel is actually a restored grist mill in the country. It is quite lovely and the river running under the building is a nice touch. We had dinner at the mill with 5 Germans and 2 English w had not ween before.
Wonderful food, wine and company. The Germans Johannes and Jurgen and their wives...........
Mercedes, our hostess, called ahead for us and booked us a room in a town that was just a few nights ago was full. All is goot. She kissed us both goodbye. We are sorry that we did not get a photo of her.
I have been joking about the Familia Mercedes, but tonight we are actually staying at the Molino Galochas and our hostess is Señora Mercedes! Washed our dirty clothes.
Buen Camino, Buen Camino, Buen Camino
