Day 12 May 31 Villavante to Astorga

Hotel - El Descanso de Wendy

18.7 miles today, 17 on the Camino

Astorga is famous for the chocolate factory, so we bought a bar of orange flavored chocolate.

The german amigos we met last night leapfrogged with us all today. They are fun and we kidded a lot!

The hike today was great, thru farms, forest and high plateau fields.

Ann-Marie met 2 French ladies, Jacqueline and Sylvianne today. Jacqueline's daughter will be on an English immersion in Denver in July. Annie got her email address and will contact her when we get home and connect with her.

The old section of Astorga is enclosed within a stone wall. It is quite beautiful. Visited plaza mayor, Catholic cathedral and Episcopal church in the city centre. Our hotel was only a few blocks from the Cathedral.

Had daily celebratory beers and tapas in cathedral plaza.

Strolled town.

 

Dinner with locals at spa hotel. Great Day!

Bed by 10pm in our comfy attic room overlooking Cathedral.

John's pack has worn out, so he got a new one. Now he can carry all of the souvenirs he has been buying.
