Day One on the Camino-Burgos to Hornillos

Well folks here we go. Pedal to the metal, rubber hits the road, fit hits the shan! The book says 20k (13 miles) but Annie's ped meter recorded 15 miles! Since the sale of our cabin consumed all of our training time, today was a test. My knees were talking, hips a protesting, but da feet wuz fine. Annie had a great day with no aches or pains.

Leaving Burgos on the pavement was not fun; about 5k. But soon we were in the bread basket of Spain called the Meseta. The Meseta is rolling hills of farm land full of cereal (Wheat) and potatoes. Solitary red poppies dotted the fields and lined many fence lines. It was very peaceful with only the wind and the click of trekking poles on the stones.

We met several fellow pilgrims on the way today from, Vancouver Island, Oregon, Germany, Paris, and Australia. All had different stories and all started in different places.

Through Annie's dilligence the night before, she discovered that our room, listed as near the Camino, was actually 2.5k off the way. She emailed them and they collected us in Hornillos in a van to the hotel. Score one for Annie!

A reminder of Colorado.

Bon Camino
